Oh cold and unexpected rain!
Coming down in splits and splats,
and finally sheets and shards.
Stinging explosions on my skin,
clinging shirt and shorts,
sodden and heavy.
Running shoes squish and squash,
leaden with determination, homebound now.
Oh fickle and short-lived rain!
I finish my run,
and you decide it's time to finish as well.
Warming sun on my stretches,
cooling breeze on my now-naked feet.
Grass so sweet, flowers so fresh, concrete so clean,
and my heart is renewed and hopeful.
Did you wash away my sadness along with my sweat and my tears?
Thank you, sweet rain.
Thank you.
How now, brown cow
what do you intend to do for me now?
Hip, flip, jump the fence
don't go to any trouble at my expense
Not too lean, not too fatty
hope they don't make you into a burger patty
Just give them milk and act sublime
and you will live a long, long time
In my stream of life
you are the candy wrapper that some asshole littered
somewhere miles upstream.
Floating gently along
turning ever so slowly and bounding above the rocks and around the bend
spoiling the view.
Oh sweet river, oh wonderful delta
rushing you away
and out to sea.
